Madame Blanche meets Depeche Mode – Enjoy the Silence with Jasper Garvida A/W 2011-12

Our friend and accessories designer Taja Bobek covered the Jasper Garvida show for Pandora's Thoughts! The show looked amazing as always - we would expect nothing less from one of our regular fave's Jasper Garvida! Absolutely beautiful! Please see Taja's coverage below:

"Reading Soie by Alessandro Baricco on my sofa back at home seems like a distant memory and now, more than ten years later, I’m watching Soie at the London Fashion Week – thanks to Jasper Garvida and his unforgettable show on Friday evening at Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Silk, orchestra, Depeche Mode, Nirvana... – Jasper Garvida’s Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection is all about antithesis!

Le Baiser, the collection was inspired by the novel Soie by Alessandro Baricco – ‘a romantic tale of a European man who becomes enchanted by the east’. Combining elements of 19th century design with his modern visions, Jasper Garvida recreates the original Soie and tells his own story.

Delicate silk, soft draping, subtle colour palette versus strong tailoring and black – two poles of sensuality, masterly united by the designer, who graduated from Central Saint Martins. Lipstick red, deep blue, emerald green – versus light cream tones. Monochromatic versus Fornasetti inspired prints. Risky, you may say, but Garvida knows how to deal with contrasts expertly – and his collection still looks balanced and elegant. He makes it seem so easy...

Being born in the Phillipines and growing up in Canada, he surely knows both East and West, and that is yet another contrast he addresses. Oriental beauty and 1900’s European lady on the same catwalk sounds a bit abstract, but Garvida proves it is possible.

And if I added Smells Like Teen Spirit in orchestra version, you wouldn’t believe me, right? Well, that’s how Jasper Garvida does it. Unbelievably and breathtakingly and aesthetically well rounded. I’m sure Madame Blanche would have loved it.

PS: Pay attention to the hairstyles by Tim Furssedonn for TONI&GUY.  Hollywood glamour gone exotic."
